Choosing the Correct Floating Shelves to Match a Wooden Counter
At Worktop Express® we now offer an exclusive range of solid wood floating shelves that are constructed from the same high-quality timber you’ll know and love if you already have our solid wood worktops, or have ever seen them up-close.
A wooden counter is an ideal surface for a kitchen, as it is hard-wearing, unique and aesthetically beautiful. These same innate qualities are what make our wooden floating shelves so appealing for kitchens, living rooms, home offices and other rooms around the house.
In this guide, we will talk about picking the right solid wood floating shelves to match your wooden worktops and other home décor.
Matching your shelves with a wooden counter
There are now four different floating shelves to choose from as standard, including some of the most popular timbers from our collection of wooden worktops.
Oak floating shelves
Everyone recognises oak timber. Its timeless character and resilient qualities have made it a prized wood that is used to create everything from furniture to large homes and other buildings.
Our solid oak floating shelves are the perfect companion for any of the oak worktops in our range – whether standard, Deluxe or full stave. They also work well with other timeless light furnishings in a classic kitchen, and can even be incorporated into a more modern industrial aesthetic – a scheme that is set to be very popular in 2016.
Walnut floating shelves
An elegant grain and varied colouration make our walnut worktops a distinguished choice for solid wood kitchens. It should come as no surprise, then, that our solid walnut floating shelves are proving popular with customers, too.
Our walnut shelves exude luxurious charm, and look superb alongside glossy blacks, whites and other more colourful accents. We’d also recommend considering walnut shelves as an accessory alongside light wood worktop choices (such as maple or ash).
Ash floating shelves
Our ash worktops are a fantastic alternative to classic oak timber, and are highly-suited to traditional kitchens with a sense of farmhouse flair.
Solid ash floating shelves are of course an excellent accessory for mixing with our ash worktops, but their light colour and linear grain makes them well suited to a variety of country kitchen themes.
Black oak floating shelves
Whilst our ash and oak floating shelves cater for those looking for a light and bright timber, our black oak floating shelves are a more suitable choice for combining with some of our darker surfaces, such as matching black oak worktops or our opulent wenge worktops.
These shelves look right at home in an ultra-modern kitchen alongside chrome and other black accessories.
Installing wooden floating shelves
As they are made from hardwood staves, our solid wood shelves are quite heavy. The brackets supplied are ideal for attaching the shelves to a brick wall, and they can also be mounted to a partition wall if carefully positioned in relation to the wooden studs. In some circumstances, we recommend using additional solid wood battens to help support the shelf.
Full installation instructions are included with each shelf, but are also available online.
