As the UK's leading online supplier of kitchen worktops, we’re committed to creating beautiful products that don’t cost the Earth – financially or environmentally. You can buy with confidence knowing our worktops have been sustainably sourced and responsibly processed, before being delivered to your door.
We respect every piece of timber we use, that is why we're delighted that our manufacturing process results in minimal wood wastage. When offcuts are created during the fabrication process, the wood is then used as customer samples or chopping boards. Any smaller offcuts are then used to fuel our two wood-burning biomass boilers that help heat our warehouse. This approach means nothing goes to waste.
We've fitted over 400 solar panels to our warehouse roof that generates enough power to run the building, including the self-enclosed extraction system. Capturing and recycling all the emissions that may have otherwise escaped means we're helping keep the air cleaner too.
All our employees do their bit too. We recycle the vast majority of our office waste as well as old IT equipment – meaning as little as possible goes to landfill. We believe it is the small contributions that add up to make a big difference.
With a fleet of 50 vans, it's important to identify how we can reduce our emissions without compromising our service to customers. To help with this, we installed state-of-the-art software in our fleet to ensure the routes we take are the most economic and efficient as possible – minimising our carbon footprint per delivery. We have also significantly reduced the amount of waste we leave with customers by removing all cardboard completely from our operation where possible.
We believe that, in order for us to be sustainable, our suppliers and vendors must meet the same standards – This is why we ensure:
- All wood that we purchase Fully complies with the legal requirements of the European Union Timber Regulations (EUTR*)
- We only purchase timber from reputable vendors
- We source timber that is Forest Stewardship Council (FSC†) certified wherever possible
- We and our suppliers are compliant with Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC‡).
"Bamboo has been used for centuries thanks to it's fast growing and durable characteristics. If you want a wooden worktop, bamboo is a practical and sustainable choice."
We fully comply with the European Union Timber Regulations (EUTR) to ensure no timber enters the European market illegally. We do this by only buying from reputable sources and maintaining close links with all our suppliers, visiting them regularly to ensure they are also 100% EUTR compliant. If needed, we also implement systems mitigating against illegal timber entering our supply chain. Please see our published guide for more information on the EUTR.
The vast majority of our worktops are available FSC® certified. The FSC is a global organisation dedicated to the promotion of responsible forest management. FSC certified forests are inspected to ensure they are managed in an environmentally robust and socially beneficial manner that protects the rights of the people who work there. Only timber from forests that meet these standards is awarded FSC certification. A full list of FSC certified worktops is available or ask for FSC certified worktops when you place your order.
The Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification is an international, non-profit, non-governmental organization which was founded in 1999 to meet the specific requirements of small forest owners. PEFC certification endorses sustainable forest and chain of custody management.
