How close to my undermounted sink should I make a tap hole on hardwood kitchen worktops?

Question

“I am planning on designing my new kitchen worktop using your Online Worktop Customisation Tool, and wanted to know how far away from the sink I should make my tap hole?”

Answer

When specifying the position of tap holes on your worktop design, we recommend that the tap hole’s centre is 60mm from the rear of the sink, though an exact measurement would be dictated by the width of the lip around the top edge of the undermounted sink. If you are ordering your sink from Worktop Express, you will find that our undermounted sinks generally have a lip of around 25mm.

The average washer/seat size of a tap is 49mm in diameter, meaning that the minimum distance from the edge of the worktop sink cut out to the centre of the tap hole would be approximately 50mm. The reason we allow an extra 10mm is to cater for tolerances in the sink manufacture.

In some cases, you may have to leave additional room – particularly if your sink is a mixer tap or one that includes any extra features such as instant boiled water. Please make sure you check the specifications of your chosen tap before ordering your customised worktop.
