“Do upstands for kitchen worktops need to match the work surface?” Question of the Week 08.09.17
“Do upstands for kitchen worktops need to match the work surface?”
We were recently contacted by May in Chichester, who asked whether there is a specific reason her to order matching upstands for kitchen worktops.
“I’m planning on ordering Calcutta Marble worktops from you and wanted to know if there was a specific reason I should order matching upstands, or if I could pick an alternative style or material.”
Upstands for kitchen worktops are a recommended accessory that help to blend the worktop into the room, whilst also protecting any walls adjacent to the countertop. They are a perfect alternative to tiling down to the kitchen surface, and are very simple to install.
Whilst it is usually recommended to choose an upstand that matches your worktop, this is only for stylistic purposes. If you would prefer, you can choose an alternative type of upstand to complement or contrast the colour of your Calcutta marble laminate worktops.
Alternatively, consider our solid wood worktop upstands to provide a distinct alternative to your marble laminate worktops. Light timbers such as oak, ash and cherry provide a luxurious alternative to laminate upstands, and can complement any other wooden furnishings in the kitchen.
If you would like to see how any of our wooden worktop upstands might look alongside the Calcutta Marble worktops before placing your order, we recommend you order some of our wood worktop samples. These are made of the same timber as our upstands, and so provide an accurate representation of how the timber might look alongside the marble décor.
For further information on the benefits of installing upstands for kitchen worktops, we recommend reading our dedicated information guide.

If you have any other queries about upstands or worktops, don’t hesitate to get in touch once again.
All the best,
