How to Remove Super Glue from Countertops

As the kitchen is often the busiest room in the house, there are several ways in which a worktop can become damaged. In this guide, we will look at how to remove super glue from countertops safely, without causing further problems with the worktop.

Whilst we would not usually recommend using acetone on your laminate worktops, it will cause the fibres in the glue to break down. Acetone can be found in several household cleaners but is most commonly present in nail polish remover. Acetone must be used until the glue is loose, or there is a risk that the worktop will be chipped during the process. If you do chip your worktops when removing super glue from them, please visit our guide on repairing laminate worktops.

Remove super glue from countertops

Check the ingredients carefully to ensure yours has acetone before following the instructions below.

  1. Apply your nail polish remover to an old rag.
  2. Apply to the area of glue on the worktop, leaving it to soak in for a few minutes until the edges of the glue become loose.
  3. Use a putty knife to get underneath the glue and lift it off of the work surface, taking care not to chip the top in the process.
  4. Scrub any remnants of the super glue away using a scourer and some more acetone.
