Worktop Express Blog

November is historically one of the busiest months here at Worktop Express, and this year has been no exception. In fact, we have seen well in excess of 750 fantastic bespoke kitchen worktops pass through the hands of our worktop fabrication team – an amazing effort by all involved.

Though it is always tricky to keep up with so many worktops passing through our facility, we have picked out three superb examples to feature in our latest fabrication diary:

Grey Oak Laminate

These grey oak laminate worktops offer a realistic representation of full stave oak worktops, stained to create an antique effect that looks superb in a range of kitchen interior designs. The square edges and textured surface provide a stylish replication of real wood.

This custom laminate worktop features an irregular cut that was made to accommodate the customer’s kitchen walls. By having the worktop customised by Worktop Express before delivery, it ensures the worktop can be installed straight away with minimal expertise.

Cherry is a wood that is often overlooked in favour of more widely-known timbers, but is actually one of the best choices for creating a smooth, hard-wearing kitchen surface. The colour and grain patterns make it well-suited to a classic kitchen setting, but it looks equally at home alongside glossy contemporary kitchen cabinets.

This particular cherry worktop was customised by our worktop fabrication team to feature a cut out that accommodates a double oven hob. Another smaller cut was made to allow the worktop to fit snugly against the customer’s kitchen wall whilst allowing for a pre-existing feature.

Caramel Bamboo

Our caramel bamboo worktops are a darker alternative to our standard bamboo surfaces, showcasing a rich golden tone that is derived from a caramelisation process which deepens the bamboo’s colour throughout. Bamboo has a very high silica content, which makes it a naturally water resistant and hygienic surface for kitchens.

To create this bespoke kitchen worktop a caramel bamboo surface has been cut by our fabrication team to accommodate a double oven hob. As with all the custom worktops that pass through our facility, the wood was given coats of Rustin’s Danish oil (a treatment which serves to hydrate and protect the timber) before being wrapped and delivered by our 2Man team.

These are just a small selection of the bespoke kitchen worktops created and delivered by Worktop Express over the last month. If you would like to see more examples of our work, please visit our Bespoke Worktops Gallery.

Wood worktops can be designed, ordered and paid for directly on our website using the Online Bespoke Worktop Tool. To enquire about custom laminate or Earthstone worktops, please contact us via telephone or email.

The Goldfinger factory is an award-winning social enterprise that offers a space for artisans to design and build bespoke furniture and interior using materials that might have otherwise gone into landfill. After having initially purchased some of our worktops to create some elegant furnishings, we recently formed an alliance with Goldfinger Factory to supply them with repurposed wood that we have been unable to sell due to damage or defects.

This social enterprise brings in the majority of its income from sales of their products, which furthers their social mission to support the local community of young crafters, artisans and artisans-to-be. Goldfinger Factory drives awareness of upcycling and provides the skills training necessary to offer a route for people to enter employment through creative empowerment.

Products made using our wood worktops are for sale on the Goldfinger factory website, and have been used in a variety of London interior installations, such as in Pamban Café at Camden Market (above).

The Goldfinger Factory is just one of the many projects Worktop Express has supported in order to drive sustainability and give back to communities. Our most successful community project has seen the planting of well over 100,000 trees at locations in England and Africa through the International Tree Foundation. You can find out more about this on our environmental policy page.

If you have been considering natural stone worktops, quartz offers a more affordable alternative. Quartz worktops are made using a combination of natural mineral quartz and resins to create a hard-wearing surface that comes in a variety of colours. Whilst quartz worktops may look the part, they are also costly and difficult to install.

If you are looking for quartz worktop alternatives, Worktop Express sells a number of great worktop choices that can re-create the look of a quartz worktop at a lower price.

Earthstone Worktops

Our range of Earthstone worktops are ideal quartz worktop alternatives. They are made of a 6mm layer of acrylic bonded to a 28mm core of chipboard, which replicates the look of a real stone worktop.

Earthstone worktops come in a variety of decors that look similar to quartz stone worktops, but – unlike quartz – they can be customised in situ to create a seamless work surface featuring cut-outs for sinks and hobs.

Laminate worktops

Our collection of Laminate worktops includes many quartz worktop alternatives that are available at a fraction of the cost. Whether you are looking for light or dark quartz worktops, there is a suitable alternative in our range.

Laminate worktops that imitate a quartz surface start at just £70, and we also sell matching upstands and splashbacks to create a seamless quartz effect.

To see either of these quartz worktop alternatives, why not order one of our worktop sample packs? Sample prices start at just £5 including free delivery – a cost that can be refunded if you go on to purchase a worktop from us.
