At Worktop Express, we offer a wide variety of worktops, many of which are made of sustainable materials. We take our environmental credentials incredibly seriously, and have worked with the International Tree Foundation over the last few years to plant thousands of trees in the UK and Africa that helps local communities and offsets our environmental impact. You can find out more about this on our environmental page.
Whilst all of our worktops are sourced with sustainability in mind, it is the FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) that recognises the sustainability of many of our wood and laminate worktops. This is a global organisation that certifies forest management and the timber’s chain of custody, helping to ensure that any products meeting their stringent guidelines can be easily identified by consumers.
The last Friday in September is annually celebrated as FSC Friday, and is a celebration of responsible forestry that raises awareness for FSC certified products. You can get involved with FSC Friday to help raise awareness and raise money for local tree planting initiatives. Here are some ideas:
Make an FSC Bake
Creative baking is not only incredibly delicious and rewarding, but can be used as a way to help raise awareness in your office or at your children’s school. The FSC logo can be easily replicated using a green icing pen on cakes, whilst cookie cutters are available in the shape of trees to make delicious deciduous treets.
Create an Educational Display
At schools, social groups or guiding organisations, students and members can help to create display that showcases the work the FSC does and raise awareness.
In businesses, a display can be used to educate both staff and customers, and can be used in conjunction with FSC certified products to communicate the importance of sustainable and responsibly forestry.
Visit an FSC Forest
There are many Woodland Trust woods across the country, and many are FSC certified. These are mostly open to the public and provide a beautiful backdrop for a family walk. You can find out where your closest FSC Forest is by visiting wwww.fsc-uk.org.
Wear Green and Create Awareness
An easy way for staff, pupils or other members of the team to get involved is to wear an item of green clothing to celebrate FSC Friday. Why not ask for a small donation from those taking part that can be contributed towards a local tree-planting charity or the Woodland Trust?
We hope this has inspired you to get involved in this year’s FSC Friday. If you do get involved, we’d love to see pictures of your projects posted on social media; you can share photos on our Facebook page, or tag us on Instagram.
