Though solid wood worktops make an attractive and durable kitchen feature no matter what is occurring in the world of design trends, you may also fancy giving your kitchen the occasional update to maintain its standing in the style stakes.
With this in mind, in today’s blog we’re going take a look at some new developments in kitchen design trends – prepare to be inspired!
Rose Gold Appliances and Accessories
Rose gold is hugely popular this year, and can be incorporated into kitchens via all manner of accessories, from food mixers to cutlery sets to metallic-edged serving dishes.
These shiny kitchen trimmings are both wonderfully ornamental and highly functional, with the ability to create a delightfully-cosy aesthetic in any home.
The marvellous thing about rose gold accessories is that they can be styled to suit either traditional or contemporary kitchens, making this an easy trend to embrace.
Fabulously decorative and available in an incredible array of styles and colours, Moroccan tiles are sure to feature highly in 2016 designs.
From bright and intricate to more simplistic, understated designs (like the white arabesque tiles you see here), there are so many varieties – for both walls and floors – that you are sure to find one that you love.
Whilst tiling requires a little more commitment than an update of your accessories, it’s a brilliant way to quickly transform the look of your kitchen, and can even rejuvenate traditional kitchen features (such as ceramic Belfast sinks).
The popularity of black kitchens has been on the rise this year, too – ideal for those who like to make an impact.
This sumptuous black kitchen with Shaker frontals and steel handles looks fantastically modern – and belongs to one of our lovely customers! Paired with full stave black American walnut worktops and a stylish hotrod set, this complete kitchen is the height of luxury.
Create a dramatic look with frontals painted in Farrow & Ball’s Pitch Black, or soften the look slightly by opting for Off-Black or Railings.
To make even more of a statement, why not team black-painted cabinet frontals with zebrano worktops? For a slightly more modest interpretation, you may prefer to make a feature of this colour on a single wall or kitchen island instead.
Vintage and Retro-Inspired Kitchens
Many kitchens are featuring retro elements this year. From cooking equipment to vintage-style bar stools, there are plenty of easy ways to incorporate this trend within your home. Add some retro-style labels to storage jars for a rapid update!
Additionally, pastel palettes are growing in popularity, with the foregrounding of shades such as mint green, duck egg blue and pale yellow, which similarly create the modern-retro vibe.
High-Gloss Subway Tiles
In addition to the beautiful Moroccan-inspired tiling seen earlier, the ever-popular subway – or ‘metro’ – tile makes a comeback this year, specifically that of the high-gloss variety.
Versatile subway tiles can take on a range of styles, from a linear brick effect to vertical columns to a luxurious herringbone formation.
A sense of modern industrial style can be achieved in a number of ways; but one of our favourite ways to channel this look in the kitchen is to combine white linear subway tiling with grey grouting and metal pendant lamps. The design is completed with a stunning solid oak worktop.
For a fresher look, couple black or white subway tiles with white grouting and a warm work surface (our ash, beech or cherry worktops would be ideal).
If you have incorporated any of these style trends into your kitchen, we would love you to share some photographs with us via Facebook, Twitter or Instagram – get snapping!
