Henry Trinder - Gloucester Rugby

Though Worktop Express® is now a national brand, we’ll always have a soft spot for our native Gloucestershire… and rugby! (one of our Directors is almost as passionate about the sport as he is about worktops!)

As part of our initiative to nurture local talent, we’re delighted to be sponsoring Henry Trinder in 2013, an extremely talented young rugby player who hails from Gloucestershire.

It was only a hop, skip and a jump for Trinder from education in Cirencester to Gloucester Rugby Club. Deemed one of Gloucester’s “most promising young talents” by The Independent, Trinder scored within three minutes of his senior debut for an England XV – a glorious finish to a run which had seen him score 6 Premiership tries!

Gloucester Rugby Club recently snapped Trinder up for another two years and we can’t wait to see what the future holds for him. After all:

“We are the Glo’ster boys, we are the glo’ster boys: we know our manners, we spend our tanners,
We are respected wherever we may go!
G-L-O-U-C-E-S-T-E-R! Gloucester! Gloucester!”

Worktop Express Information Guides

As part of the Worktop Express® team’s ongoing commitment to customer service, we’ve recently added an exciting new section to our website: an online library of kitchen information guides.

Worktop Express® have already published quite a few of these easy-to-read articles, aiming to give friendly insight into kitchen design-related topics including radius corners, choosing your edge profile, and many more! Of course we have plenty of knowledge relevant to our own products that we’re keen to post, but this is not all you’ll find: we’ll also share our enthusiasm for kitchen trends and design in general with you. Be sure to check often as we’ll be posting frequent updates.

And don’t stop there – got a great idea for an information guide? The Worktop Express® team want to hear from you: whether it’s a suggestion for an article, a query for further information, or simply some feedback on the library. Get in touch!

Cutting the Ribbon

After months of hard work, the Worktop Express® Showroom opened its doors on Friday 13th July (the date is meant to be unlucky but thankfully wasn’t for us!).

The whole Worktop Express® team – plus some special guests – gathered while Richard Graham MP officially opened the showroom by cutting a red ribbon with some rather large scissors. We were then free to wander around the custom-built space, enjoying a few celebratory champagne toasts along the way! Guests commented on the range on offer: the sets vary from contemporary (zebrano worktops with stainless steel wall tiles) to quaint (a ‘Seaside’ set with beautiful beech worktops and cobalt blue accents).

All kitchen displays are designed to provide the customer with the easiest and most informative experience: rather than just showing off products, we’ve chosen to dress the sets thoroughly to give a sense of character. Our kitchens are kitchens to be ‘lived’ in. We couple eight full sets with quirky ‘introductory’ displays specifically designed to accompany each kitchen, detailing the concepts at work plus all the appliances and products used within the display. There is also one wall completely devoted to worktop samples – so if you’re not sure which worktop to go for, look no further.

Please feel free to visit and see the wonderful products on offer! Customers are more than welcome to simply pop into our Brearley Court premises and one of the Worktop Express® team will show you around (though if you are travelling some distance we recommend making an appointment first).

We hope to see you soon!

Showroom #1
Showroom #2

Hello, gentle readers. It’s been a busy week for blogging – but we’ve got lots to tell!

The first thing to point out is our brilliant summer sale, which you may already have taken advantage of (and if you haven’t, why not?!) The second point worth mentioning is the date: you may have noticed that the sale is taking place a little earlier this year, which is partly a response to the awful weather (we all need something to cheer us up!) and also to tempt our customers ahead of the Olympics.

Ah, the Olympics. A booming time for tourism, a boost for GB morale, a huge opportunity for athletes… but not so great for worktop deliveries in London, I hear you cry! Never fear. Though it is not yet known what impact the Olympic events will have on freight capacity, Worktop Express® will still be operating our 2Man Delivery service on a ‘reasonable endeavour’ basis during the competition.

The nature of this major sporting event does mean that there are likely to be heavy traffic conditions and road disruption within London throughout the competition. As a result, certain areas will experience restrictions on particular dates (CF10, CV6, DA3, DT5, E16&20, EN9, HA9, KT8, NE1, NW8, SE7&10, SL4, SW1,5 &19, W2) – though we’re doing our best to keep this to a minimum. On available days customers are welcome to book delivery to London postcodes as usual; we advise allowing plenty of time and ordering as early as possible.

Rest assured we are making every effort to ensure that we will not have to ask for too much customer flexibility during this unpredictable time. For full details of the Worktop Express® Olympic plan, please click here; or if you have a query, do not hesitate to contact us.

Please tune in to Channel 5 at 8pm tonight (17th July) for a glimpse of some stunning Worktop Express® worktops!

Half Built House is a new ‘makeover’ programme with a difference. Property guru Sian Astley focuses on providing aid to those who have begun renovating their homes and need direction, but promises not to use any clever lighting or camera angles (or sticky tape!) to ‘pretty up’ the finished renovation. The solutions offered are real and are achieved by hard graft and ingenious planning: nothing else!

And of course, as any interior decorator knows, good materials are an integral part of a quality design – enter Worktop Express®. We supplied several solid oak worktops plus matching upstands to Sian Astley and her team; and we can’t wait to see what they came up with.

The Worktop Express® team will be watching Channel 5 eagerly at 8pm tonight. Join us!

Worktop Express® are pleased to confirm our continued sponsorship of local sportsman Stuart Deacon in the Autograss 2012/2013 season.

Autograss races are the nation’s favourite for amateur British motor racing, taking place at 50 venues across Britain. It’s always spectacular to watch, but the Worktop Express® team particularly enjoy the sense of community spirit demanded by the sport: the competitions are raced on dirt tracks constructed by club members on natural surfaces (like a local field!) and on the day everyone pitches in to help ensure things run smoothly.

Stuart is well used to the order of the day, having already enjoyed a great 2011/2012 season (with some outstanding performances in the Class 5 races). We look forward to his continued success as the Worktop Express car whizzes round the track!

BBC Radio GloucestershireWe’ve all been working hard in the build-up to the showroom launch (watch this space!) – but when Martyn Rees, managing director of DOS Ltd (the parent company of Worktop Express®), was asked to appear on the Chris Baxter show, he didn’t hesitate!

Chris Baxter is a popular DJ on BBC Radio Gloucestershire, and his newspaper review consistently attracts eminent panel members from the local business community. With many years of financial and commercial experience, Martyn has a wealth of knowledge to offer and considers it a privilege to have been invited onto the show.

Tune in to BBC Radio Gloucestershire on the 11th July at 10.30 to hear the panel dissect the topics up for discussion… there may not be much about worktops, but it’s sure to be an interesting show!

Home ChannelThe Worktop Express® Installation team have been enjoying a very busy (wet) summer so far, but when we were asked to supply and fit a bundle of oak worktops plus accessories for a new TV show, we were happy to help.

Kitchen SOS is an exclusive new show presented by Nadia Sawalha which will begin airing on UKTV Home at the end of summer. Together with kitchen designer Kerr Drummond, Nadia works with families to solve design problems and provide stylish updates to their cabinets and worktops.

Kitchen SOSFor the kitchen of Anne and Pete Barton, Nadia and Kerr suggested oak: one of our favourites! Oak is a material that our expert installation team can truly show to its best potential in any space, pre-oiling and cutting worktops to size as a standard part of the service. For the Barton kitchen, there was a good range of selected sizes to work with (ranging from 2m-4m long and 620-960mm wide) and several complementary solid oak plinths to really enhance the wooden worksurfaces. Overall, the skilful installation and top-class materials turned the kitchen into a wonderful celebration of oak: and the family seemed very pleased, which was the best reward for the Worktop Express® team.

To catch the installation team hard at work, please tune in to Kitchen SOS in September or log on to (we’ll post the exact times and dates on here in due course!)
