keyboard_arrow_down keyboard_arrow_up Description

Ash Kitchen worktops

Ash worktops have plenty of character thanks to the natural variations in grain pattern and colouring that are typical of the timber. An attractive, light timber featuring caramel grain that appears in both straight and 'curly' formations, our ash worktops are highly durable and extremely versatile. Naturally bright and welcoming, ash makes a great alternative to classic oak or maple.

Ash Wooden Worktop 3M X 620mm X 40mm
The ash worktop cut colour varied hugely from block to block and was completely different to the 2 m worktop which meant they didn’t blend at all

keyboard_arrow_down keyboard_arrow_up Frequently Asked Questions
keyboard_arrow_down keyboard_arrow_up How do I order samples?

Before ordering worktops from us, you may want to order worktop samples. All types of worktop samples can be ordered online on our samples page.

keyboard_arrow_down keyboard_arrow_up Do you sell custom sized worktops?

We offer a wide variety of customisation to our worktops, please check out our Online Bespoke Tool to see all the great options to customise your worktop.

keyboard_arrow_down keyboard_arrow_up Do you sell offcuts?

Whenever you customise your worktop using our Worktop Customisation Tool, we will send you all of the pieces that are removed in order to create your perfect shape. Unfortunately, we do not hold or sell any offcuts separately our customer always receives all of the worktop they purchase (apart from any non-viable slivers!). If you want a smaller piece of worktop, our bathroom worktops, are a great option for people looking for a small worktop section.

keyboard_arrow_down keyboard_arrow_up Will my wooden worktops match?

Our worktops are not pre-packaged. As such, all worktops are packaged to order. Therefore, we ensure that all worktops in multiple orders are checked to be a suitable match in both grain formation and colour consistency, as best as possible, before dispatch.

However, once you have oiled our wooden worktops, the natural colour and features will be fully visible, so we still strongly recommend checking the worktops match before cutting and installing them.

keyboard_arrow_down keyboard_arrow_up What's the difference between Oak, Prime Oak & Full Stave Oak?

Standard Oak worktops are constructed from solid oak staves which have a more prominent grain pattern and natural features than their Prime variant, and in general have more character. Most worktops will have colour variation between each separate stave.

Prime worktops are also constructed from solid oak staves that have a more uniform, delicate grain with fewer natural features. Prime worktops have a sophisticated look and as a result are more suited to contemporary kitchens.

Full Stave Oak are the pinnacle of our oak range and are expertly crafted to highlight the beautiful golden grain and natural character. Constructed from 40mm wide staves which run the full length of the worktop it creates an unrivalled sophistication.

keyboard_arrow_down keyboard_arrow_up How do I store my wood kitchen worktops before installation?

We recommend that worktops are oiled immediately upon receipt (we recommend Osmo Top Oil for all worktops, including those that have been pre-oiled with our in-house service) and installed shortly after. If storage is necessary, please store your worktops flat and on bearers before installation. Remember to store worktops in a damp-free environment.

keyboard_arrow_down keyboard_arrow_up How do I treat the worktops before installation?

We recommend and supply Osmo top oil for the treatment of all worktops. All DIY worktops will require two coats before installation to all sides. For maintenance, wooden worktops will require oiling when the worktops stop retaining their water resistance and fail the bead test. This does of course depend on the use of the kitchen.

keyboard_arrow_down keyboard_arrow_up Do I need special brackets to install timber worktops?

Yes. We recommend the stretcher plates/slotted brackets. These brackets secure the worktops to the cabinets but also allow the worktop to move by several mm to allow for gradual contraction/expansion of the timber during varying humidity. A full installation guide is provided with all worktops, and you can also click the following link to view this information online - Wood Worktop installation guide.

keyboard_arrow_down keyboard_arrow_up How do I clean wood worktops?

To clean wood worktops, simply wipe the surface with warm (not boiling hot) soapy water. Remember to wipe off any water after a few minutes.

keyboard_arrow_down keyboard_arrow_up How can I fix a bowed worktop?

1. Assess the Cause: Determine why the worktop has bowed. Common reasons include changes in humidity or moisture content, improper installation, incorrect storage, or structural issues.

2. Evaluate Damage: Check if the bowing is minor or severe. Minor bowing might be less of an issue and easier to correct.

3. Avoid Cutting or Installing: If the worktop is significantly bowed, avoid cutting or installing it. Contact us to see if it can be replaced.

4. Reduce Moisture Exposure: If the bowing is due to moisture, try to reduce exposure to moisture sources. Ensure there are no leaks from nearby sinks or taps.

5. Weight Distribution: Place heavy objects or weights evenly across the bowed area to gradually encourage it to flatten out. Use something like heavy books or bags of flour for a couple of days.

6. Flip the Worktop: If the worktop is not fixed in place permanently, flipping it over might reveal a flatter surface on the other side.

7. Apply Moisture: For wooden worktops, sometimes lightly wetting the concave side (the side that is bowed upwards) can cause it to expand and flatten as it dries. Be cautious with this method and ensure it's appropriate for your material.

8. Consult a Professional: If the bowing persists or is severe, consult a professional carpenter or installer. They can assess the situation and provide expert advice on how to fix or replace the worktop if necessary.

9. Prevent Future Issues: Once the worktop is corrected, take steps to prevent future bowing by ensuring proper installation, oiling, and maintenance.

Depending on the severity and cause of the bowing, one or more of these steps should help alleviate the issue. If you're unsure or uncomfortable tackling this yourself, it's always wise to seek professional assistance.
