We offer a wide variety of customisation to our worktops, please check out our Online Bespoke Tool to see all the great options to customise your worktop.
Once you have confirmed your bespoke worktop diagram our lead times are 6-9 working days from customer confirmation to delivery. This is true for almost all types of worktop customisation, including single cut to size on any worktop.
If you order your worktop customisation via our online tool, you can confirm your diagram during your design process AND save 10% on the services that you order.
If you choose to use our bespoke worktop service, we will send all the substantial offcuts from cutting the worktop to your specific requirements. These can be a useful extra to use for a desk, shelving, chopping boards.
If you wish to order fabricated worktops, we will always calculate the most cost-effective solution to achieve the required sizes. If you are ordering standard worktops, please remember to purchase slightly oversized worktops in order to cut them to size on site, allowing for any measurement errors/alterations.
No, a simple sketch will be fine, as a member of our staff will confirm all measurements and requirements before we commence manufacture. However, if you are able to provide a diagram in Microsoft Word or similar this is beneficial.
Whenever you customise your worktop using our Worktop Customisation Tool, we will send you all of the pieces that are removed in order to create your perfect shape. Unfortunately, we do not hold or sell any offcuts separately our customer always receives all of the worktop they purchase (apart from any non-viable slivers!). If you want a smaller piece of worktop, our bathroom worktops, are a great option for people looking for a small worktop section.
Please visit our guarantees page for the full list of our products and their warranty/guarantee details.
Our commitment to offering an unrivalled range of kitchen worktops has positioned Worktop Express® at the forefront of the market; and the benefits of our expertise are realised in both exceptional products and excellent customer service. We are one of the only retailers which stock the actual worktops ourselves, rather than selling for a distribution company, and as a result we are able to offer next day delivery with our in house two person delivery services. We believe that our personal service sets us apart from the competition.
We are proud to confirm that many of our worktops are now available FSC® certified, in species such as oak, beech and walnut, to name a few. Not all of our stock is FSC certified, so if you do require FSC certified worktops, please state this on the online order form, when enquiring or placing your order, so that we can ensure the items you purchase are from an FSC certified source. To find out more about our green credentials, please visit our sustainability page.
All of our worktops are constructed from hardwood and as such there is no difference in versatility. Any worktop from our entire range, once professionally installed, is suitable to use as a kitchen worktop and as such your decision should be made on colour and style.
Our worktops are not pre-packaged. As such, all worktops are packaged to order. Therefore, we ensure that all worktops in multiple orders are checked to be a suitable match in both grain formation and colour consistency, as best as possible, before despatch.
However, once you have oiled our wooden worktop’s the natural colour and features will be fully visible, so we still strongly recommend checking the worktops match before cutting and installing them.
Standard Oak worktops are constructed from solid oak staves which have a more prominent grain pattern and natural features than their Prime variant, and in general have more character. Most worktops will have colour variation between each separate stave.
Prime worktops are also constructed from solid oak staves that have a more uniform, delicate grain with fewer natural features. Prime worktops have a sophisticated look and as a result are more suited to contemporary kitchens.
Full Stave Prime Oak are the pinnacle of our oak range and are expertly crafted to highlight the beautiful golden grain and natural character. Constructed from extra wide staves which run the full length of the worktop it creates an unrivalled sophistication. We source our Full Stave Prime Oak worktops from central France which provides the perfect growing conditions for flawless consistency and quality and can clearly be seen in this our most premium range of timber worktops.
We recommend that worktops are oiled immediately upon receipt (we recommend Rustins Danish Oil for all worktops, including those that have been pre-oiled with our in-house service) and installed shortly after. If storage is necessary, please store your worktops flat and on bearers before installation. Remember to store worktops in a damp-free environment.
We recommend and supply Rustins Danish oil for the treatment of all worktops. All DIY worktops will require three coats before installation to both the top and bottom sides, while end grains require six coats. For maintenance, wooden worktops will require oiling once a week for the first six weeks, and then every three months thereafter. This does of course depend on the use of the kitchen.

At Worktop Express we are continually expanding and updating our processes. Recently we have developed a new pre-oiling system which utilises sophisticated machinery and innovative techniques to achieve the highest standard for our customers. Unfortunately, Rustins is not suitable for this machine, and as such we have introduced a very similar industrial product called HABiol.
Both Rustins and HABiol are surface oils that provide a protective coating to the surface of the wood - they do not penetrate the wood like some oils we have used previously. Rustins is a tried and tested product that is easy to apply, and we therefore recommend using this for aftercare of all worktops. Both products yield an extremely similar, aesthetically pleasing finish.
Yes. We recommend the stretcher plates/slotted brackets in our worktop installation kit. These brackets secure the worktops to the cabinets but also allow the worktop to move by several mm to allow for gradual contraction/expansion of the timber during varying humidity. A full installation guide is provided with all worktops, and you can also click the following link to view this information online - Wood Worktop installation guide.
Each of our worktop types have slightly different jointing methods, please see our installation guides for full details for each type of join.
As well as looking the part, upstands are extremely handy when it comes to worktop installation. Upstands hide the small expansion gap required when fitting solid wood worktops and they also enable worktops to be fitted to out-of-square walls without the need to cut large sections of the worktop to size first. They help to integrate the worktop material with other kitchen elements and also prevent any moisture/ingress from forming behind the worktops.
To clean wood worktops, simply wipe the surface with warm (not boiling hot) soapy water. Remember to wipe off any water after a few minutes.
