Luton is most commonly recognised as the location of the UK's 4th largest international airport, with over 71,000 flights and more than 30 million passengers every year. However, as well as being a popular centre of travel, Luton has plenty to offer in terms of attractions, making it a desirable location in its own right.
A stunning feat of architecture, the Luton Hoo is a magnificent country home which boasts an octagonal walled garden measuring a vast 5 acres, designed by 'Capability' Brown himself in the 18th century. This Grade 1 listed mansion was purchased by South African diamond magnate Sir Julius Wenher in 1903, who later hosted his guests the Queen and Duke of Edinburgh as part of their honeymoon in 1947.
Thanks to the airport presence, the tourist industry in Luton is booming; resultantly, the town has ample restaurants and bars as well as sports and recreational facilities. The Wardown Park Museum is a popular attraction housed by a sizable Victorian mansion, whilst Stockwood Discovery Centre explores the history of the region and draws gardening enthusiasts to roam its idyllic, classically-styled gardens.
