“Are your wood worktops treated with anti-fungal spray?” Question of the Week 27.08.16
“Are your wood worktops treated with anti-fungal spray?”
This week Charlotte in Birmingham sent us a query online. She is visiting our new London showroom in Camden soon, at which time she would like to place an order for our high-grade wood worktops. Before purchasing wooden work surfaces, however, Charlotte would like to know more about how we prepare the timber.
“I am visiting London soon and plan to stop by your Camden showroom while I’m there. I’m interested in purchasing some solid wood worktops; I know that I can speak with your Showroom Manager whilst there, but I wanted to ask a question before making the journey. I have been told by a local retailer that wooden worktops need to be treated with anti-fungal spray, otherwise they will develop mould spots. Have yours been treated?”
Many thanks for getting in touch. We are thrilled to hear that you have made the decision to purchase our real wood worktops; we know it’s a choice you won’t regret.
Rather than applying harsh chemicals to the beautiful natural grain of the wood, we submit all of the timber used to produce our solid wood worktops to a special kiln-drying process, before cutting it into staves and compiling to create a stunning work surface.
The kiln-drying process eliminates any unwanted bacteria or mould. We ensure that this process is undertaken for longer than the standard period of time – an expense we are happy to incur in order to improve the quality of our products. To find out more, please read our “Why is Kiln-Dried Wood Best for Worktops?’ information guide.
We also recommend using Rustins Danish Oil to prolong the life of your worktops; this treatment nourishes the timber, helping to protect it from any water ingress (thus inhibiting fresh mould growth). As explained in our wood worktop aftercare guide, we advise mopping up any water spilt on wooden work surfaces immediately. This step will also help to ensure that solid wood worktops maintain their visual appeal and are not compromised by water.
If you have any more questions you would like to ask before making your purchase, please don’t hesitate to contact us again.
