“Will I receive offcuts if I order bespoke timber worktops?”

The latest ‘Question of the Week’ comes from Gary in Trowbridge. He has placed an order for two bespoke timber worktops and wants to know whether he should also expect to receive any offcuts created.

QUESTION:

“I have just submitted my fabrication order for two worktops, but I want to know what will happen to the offcuts? Will they be sent to me at the same time as the worktops are delivered?”

ANSWER:

Hi Gary,

We are pleased to confirm that we have received your fabrication order for bespoke worktops and will be returning your diagram for confirmation shortly.

On your fabrication diagram, you will find offcuts of at least 80cm² are also included, and will be delivered at the same time as your worktop. If you do not want any of these offcuts, then please let us know when the order is placed or – at the very latest – before confirming the diagram.

Please note that cut-outs for apertures and irregular cuts are included as standard, but not always included on the diagram. If you decided not to receive offcuts but then later changed your mind, we can check to see if the offcut is still ‘available’, but we can make no guarantees.

Worktop offcuts can be used to create a great number of fantastic solid wood items, including book-ends, door stops and much more besides, only limited by your imagination and carpentry skills.

If you would prefer large enough offcuts to be turned into chopping boards, tablet stands or solid wood shelves by our team, please specify this on your order so that we can calculate any additional fabrication or oiling surcharges that may apply.

Small offcuts below 80mm² are considered ‘scrap’ and are used to fuel our fabrication warehouse’s wood-burning heater, which is an environmentally friendly way of heating the large warehouse without requiring additional gas or electricity.
