“Where does timber for your oak solid wood worktops come from?” Question of the Week 18.07.15
“Where does timber for your oak solid wood worktops come from?”
Our latest ‘Question of the Week’ comes from Sasha in Bridgewater. She wants to know where we source the oak timber used to construct our oak solid wood worktops.
“I have always wanted to have solid oak worktops in my kitchen, and now that I have the opportunity I want to ensure I am choosing timber from a sustainable source. Can you please tell me where your oak wood is sourced from?”
Thank you for taking the time to get in touch with us regarding our oak worktops; oak has always been the most popular timber we sell, and is perfect for kitchens with either a modern or traditional theme.
Our oak worktops are available in a variety of forms, constructed from individual staves that make up the worktop. Our standard worktops use 40mm wide staves to create a ‘butcher block’ look that is very popular, and also great value for money. Alternatively, our Deluxe Oak worktops use wider blocks that show off the timber in a more luxurious fashion, whilst our full stave oak worktops are constructed from a small number of wide staves that run the entire length of the worktop to create the most lavish of surfaces.
Once you have chosen the construction type you prefer, you can also then take your pick from our standard oak or our Prime Oak worktops, the latter of which features staves that are chosen for consistent timber colouration and fewer natural imperfections.
The vast majority of the oak timber used to manufacture our worktops is from two main suppliers in Europe that purchase FSC® certified timber from a variety of locations. The oak timber is sourced from Poland, Ukraine and Croatia in accordance with the EUTR, and all comes from well-managed forests with established replanting schemes. These procedures ensure that stocks are healthily replenished and that the conservation of the local environment is carefully considered.
We are now delighted to be able to supply a great number of worktops that carry FSC certification; if you are interested in receiving worktops that bear this certification, then please state this on the online order form, or mention it to one of our advisers when ordering via telephone.

Further details can be found in our Sourcing and Manufacture of Solid Wood Worktops information guide; or, to find out everything else there is to know about these particular worktops, we suggest reading our Oak Worktops Nutshell Guide.
All the best,
