“Which solid wood kitchen worktops are best for country kitchens?”

Today’s ‘Question of the Week’ was sent in by Danielle in Ross-on-Wye, who wants to create a perfect country kitchen, and asked us for advice on choosing the ideal solid wood kitchen worktops.

QUESTION:

“I’m finally ready to re-do my kitchen and am hoping to create a classic country kitchen aesthetic using your wooden worktops. Could you advise on which surfaces you think are best suited to a country kitchen?”

ANSWER:

Hi Danielle,

Thanks for getting in touch regarding your new kitchen project – many of our wood worktops are ideal surfaces for a country-style kitchen. Whilst it is difficult to suggest one particular type of timber for your kitchen, there are a few we recommend for achieving the traditional country aesthetic you are looking for.

Oak

Our oak worktops are by far the most popular in country kitchens, thanks to their unmistakable character and hard-wearing qualities.

Choose from a variety of construction choices including standard, Deluxe or full-stave, in either oak or Prime Oak timber. Oak looks particularly stunning alongside kitchens painted in light creams and whites.

Walnut

Walnut worktops are another firm favourite for creating a classic country feel, and feature staves of varying colour with a beautiful grain pattern.

Our walnut worktops are available in standard or Deluxe options that are both versatile choices for combining with dark greys and blues, or lighter shades of yellow and cream.

Cherry

The delicate grain and honey-coloured hue of our cherry worktops are often overlooked, but this timber is an ideal choice for country kitchens.

When combined with light shades on kitchen walls and doors, cherry brings colour and warmth to any kitchen, and reflects light beautifully in spaces with less natural illumination.

Ash

If you are looking for a lighter alternative to oak, our ash worktops fit the bill perfectly.

Light in colour and with prominent linear grain, this timber has plenty of character and looks fabulous in country kitchens. Ash is available in standard, Deluxe and full stave varieties to suit any kitchen – there’s a choice to suit any budget.

Maple

Maple worktops are another bright surface that are naturally reflective; as such they’re ideal for country kitchens lacking in natural light.

Maple is a widely-used traditional timber that is both incredibly smooth and very hard-wearing. It can be had in either a standard variety with 40mm staves, or our full stave variant with 90mm staves that run the full length of the worktop.
