  2. Hi Jane,

We are able to supply bespoke floating shelves however we would require the specification to be emailed to us along with your billing and delivery address. We can then reply with a formal quotation for this.

Our Oak is European, Prime versions will be slightly lighter in colour overall as there will be less variation in this.

    Best Regards,
    Leanne @ Worktop Express

  3. Hi I would like two medium oak shelves.

    1 – 1100 x 300 x 30
    2 – 1400 x 300 x 30

    Price and availability please

  4. Hi Robin,

As standard we stock oak floating shelves up to 1500mm long, 300mm deep and 40mm thick as standard. The other sizes available from stock are 300mm, 600mm, 900mm and 1200mm in length.

If you are looking for a bespoke shelf size such as those you have listed, you will need to go through our fabrication department to get a quote for these bespoke sizes. They can be contacted by emailing [email protected], or telephoning us on 0845 22 22 644 / 01452 881 372.

    All the best,

    Ben @ Worktop Express.

  5. Hi,

I require a length slightly shorter that the 1200mm that you offer (1100mm). What is the maximum that I can trim so that it fits the alcove?

  6. Hi Tej,

Our 1200mm shelves can be trimmed, but we would not advise doing this as the bracket spacings will need to be recalculated to ensure the shelving is balanced. The shelves can be cut at home if you wish, but will require a heavy duty circular saw or router to make a clean cut in the timber.

Alternatively, we offer a bespoke shelves service, and can make the shelves to exactly the length you require so that they can be easily fitted immediately after delivery without any further adjustment.

    Ben @ Worktop Express

  7. Hi,

Similar question to Tej, although for 1500 mm shelves. How much can I trim off? Is it 350mm as well?

  8. Hi Dave,

Our 1500mm shelf has space to accommodate 5 brackets, and because the centres of the holes for the supports are 150mm in from each end, they cannot be trimmed down as it will affect the structural integrity of the shelves.

For sizes between 1200mm and 1500mm, we are able to create bespoke shelves to your specifications which will arrive ready for fitting upon installation. You can enter the measurements on our Bespoke Floating Shelves Page for a quotation:

    Kind regards,
    Stephanie @ Worktop Express

  9. Hi

My plasterboard wall have been stuck onto the blockwork. (The new way according to my builder!) Can toggle bolts be used effectively in supporting the weight of the shelving and the mugs that will go on top? Alternatively how about the extra blocks you supply? I assume they fit under the shelf along the wall.

  10. Hi Mel,

Thanks for getting in touch regarding our floating shelves.

Our shelves are provided with specialist invisible mounting bolts that are designed for fitting to solid walls. Depending on the thickness of your plasterboard, they may be able to penetrate this and securely fit into the blockwork behind. We would not recommend using an alternative fixture such as toggle bolts, as they are not compatible with the invisible mounting holes on the rear of each shelf.

If you are concerned that the wall will not adequately support the weight of the shelf and items you’d like to put on it, then our floating shelf battons are designed to fit underneath the shelf – either along the wall or at either end (if fitted in an alcove). These can be attached with toggle bolts or any other suitable fixture to provide additional support.

    Kind regards,

    Ben @ Worktop Express.

  11. Similar question to some above: we would like a shelf that’s about 700mm, and have access to the tools needed to trim it. Can the 900mm shelf be trimmed at home?

  12. Do these shelves have a maximum load please?

  13. Hello Nathan,

As per the information above, our floating shelves can support up to maximum of 35KG and are only recommended for use on solid walls.

We would always recommend using an additional wooden battens to provide additional support if the shelf will be used for heavy items and the loading weight is likely to be nearing the 35kg maximum.

    Kind regards,

    Stephanie @ Worktop Express.

  15. Hello Nigel,

In our 40mm thick shelves, brackets will be 150mm from each end with a gap of 300mm between each bracket. The 300mm shelf that we stock is an exception to this and has 150mm between brackets and each one is 75mm from the end. If you are looking at 30mm thick shelves or bespoke shelf sizes, it will vary depending on the size you need, and we would advise you to contact our sales department on 0345 22 22 644 or via [email protected] to discuss your requirements.

    Kind regards,

    Stephanie @ Worktop Express.

  16. I have received my shelves and read installation instructions. However, I’m keen to know if there are any tips to ensure the fixing studs go in level. I note to check these once they are sticking out from the wall, but that’s too late for any adjustment to be made. Any helpful tips would be welcome.

  17. Hello Barry,

When you are marking out the places for the fixing studs, we would advise using a level to ensure they are fixed in the right place. This will be easiest with a laser level, but can be done with a spirit level if you do not have access to one. We would advise asking a friend to help you if you are using a spirit level, so that one person can mark the fixing stud position, and the other can ensure the level is straight before measuring the correct distance from the first fixing stud position and marking the appropriate place for the second. This can then be repeated for subsequent fixing studs.

If you have any further queries about the installation of your shelves, please do not hesitate to contact our customer support team on 0345 22 22 644 or via [email protected]

    Kind regards,

    Stephanie @ Worktop Express.

  18. Good morning. I have the 1200 x 200 x 40 floating oak shelves, with 3 brackets which will be fitted on a single brick solid wall. They are already heavy, but what weight items can I load on? They’ll be in the kitchen and have crockery, glassware and books on them.

  19. Hello Sheila,

As per the information in this guide, our floating shelves can support a maximum of 35kg – though we do recommend that an additional support batten is added if the items on the shelf are close to the maximum weight. You can purchase additional support battens from us here:

    Kind regards,

    Stephanie @ Worktop Express.

  20. Hi, can your floating shelves be cut down to go in-between an alcove ?

    A customer has asked me to fit approx. 20 shelves in solid oak wood block in 4 alcoves. Lengths and Widths vary from 980mm x 380mm – 935mm x 375mm – 1090mm x 305mm – 930mm x 325mm

I was thinking of using your Oak wood block worktops and cutting them down, rebating the sides and back and sliding them over a 25mm x 25mm batten which would be fixed on sides and back of alcove.

But your floating shelves look an easier method and they are pre-finished

  21. Hi Richie,

We would recommend utilising our bespoke floating shelf service if you require customised shelving for an alcove. This way, the shelves will arrive ready for installation and our fabrication team will ensure they are balanced and that the brackets fit into the correct places. As it looks as though you need a few different sizes, you may be best emailing our our fabrication team at [email protected] so they can advise.

Please let us know if you have any further questions or queries,

    Kind regards,

    Stephanie @ Worktop Express.

  22. I am looking to fix 4 oak shelves in an alcove using 40mm shelving. Each will be 73cms long but I was wanting them to be around 33cms deep. Since I don’t want them touching the alcove sides (so they truly float) I wondered if your brackets would support a shelf that deep, since your standard shelves are only 29cms deep?
If not any other suggestions or will I have to fix them at the sides with rebates and battens?

  23. Hi Doug,

Thank you for considering our solid oak floating shelves. If you are planning to install these within an alcove, you could use batons to support the shelves, this will enable you to install larger shelves that can support heavier items if needed.

Your requested size doesn’t come as standard so please use our bespoke calculator to generate the cost of your shelves (Max width is 250mm).

If you proceed with your purchase, our instalation instructions may be of interest

    Many Thanks,
    Ben @ Worktop Express

  24. I am interested in the 1500mm shelves and would like to know the weight of the actual shelf

  25. Hello Tony,

Thank you for your enquiry. Our 1500mm shelves vary from approximately 9-11kg, depending on the timber and thickness – if you would like to get in touch with our sales team on 0345 22 22 644 or at [email protected] and provide some additional information, they will be able to provide the weight of the shelf you are looking to purchase.

    Kind regards,
    Stephanie @ Worktop Express

  26. Can you use these shelves in a bathroom with higher moisture levels that other rooms ?

  27. Hello Will,

You can use our floating shelves in a bathroom, but we do recommend that you apply a lacquer or varnish to ensure they are sufficiently protected from the higher moisture levels.

    Kind regards,
    Stephanie @ Worktop Express

  28. Hi I’m looking at some customised floating shelves in prime oak. One 997cm and one 1022cm for alcoves. We’ve previously had cheaper floating shelves which have dipped forwards because the bracket rods were not strong enough even with little weight. What are your brackets made out of & do they support the full width of the shelf? I have seen the additional supports you do but then the shelf wouldn’t look floating.

  29. Hello Laura,

Our floating shelf brackets are made from stainless steel and are placed at regular intervals along the shelves – generally 300mm apart and 150mm from each end, except our 300mm long shelves which have supports 150mm apart 75mm from each end. Our shelves can support a maximum of 35kg in weight but we do recommend that items are evenly distributed across the entire shelf. We also suggest that if you are nearing the maximum weight bearing limit for the shelf that additional supports are used.

    Kind regards,
    Stephanie @ Worktop Express

  30. Hi,

Do you do shelves with a recess at the back to pass wires through. I would like to put a dvd and video player on the shelf but would like the cables running behind the shelf

  31. Hi Geoff,

We offer floating shelves and shelves mounted on wall brackets only I’m afraid. We don’t do extra options such as wire recesses.

    Many thanks,

    Adam @ Worktop Express

  32. Hi,

I read that above/below specific lengths can only be created by your fabrication decpartment. Would they also drill the holes for the brackets?

  33. Hi Kristian,
Our Bespoke Cutting Service should be able to get your floating shelves ready for you to your requirements. Please send an email with your full requirements to our bespoke cutting team at [email protected] who will able to create a quote for you.
    Many thanks,
    Adam @ Worktop Express
