Creating Bespoke Hardwood Worktops for Kitchen Islands
Kitchen islands have become a key component in modern kitchens, becoming the true ‘heart’ of the home, as a focal point for preparing and gathering for casual meals, socialising and even as an impromptu workplace.
With enough space available, a kitchen can be visually transformed with the addition of a kitchen island, whilst providing additional storage space and a home for sinks, hobs and variety of other kitchen appliances.
At Worktop Express® we provide hardwood worktops up to 960mm wide in lengths up to 3M, which are absolutely ideal for kitchen islands, however you may want to make some alterations for them before using them as your island’s new surface.
Ideal Customisations for Kitchen Islands
Cut to Size: if you’re looking for a worktop of a particular size to fit the available space in your kitchen, consider one of our larger worktops whilst also making use of the ‘cut to size’ fabrication service on offer. Our team can cut a worktop to size with precision down to 1mm, and once cut the edge will be refinished to ensure a perfectly smooth finish, ready for oiling. Prices for this option start at just £15, it and can be ordered easily via our Bespoke Online Tool. Read more in our ‘Ordering Cut-To-Size Worktops’ information guide.
Extra-Wide Biscuit Joining: if you are looking to create an extra-wide kitchen island worktop, our fabrication team can help. We can create worktops anything up to 1200mm wide, and 6M length (depending on your requirements), which will suit even the most expansive of kitchen islands. Though larger surfaces would be possible, we limit our bespoke worktops to this dimension to retain structural rigidity in the material.
Edge Profiling: unless you would like to keep the chunky, square-edged look, we recommend adding an edge profile to all worktops for kitchen islands. Not only do edge profiles soften the look of a worktop, but they also make the edge profile considerably more hard-wearing and resistant to impact damage. Our team can apply any combination of pencil, rounded, chamfered or ogee edge profiles to both the top and bottom edge of a worktop.
Ellipse Ends: if your kitchen island is also doubling as a breakfast bar, an ellipse end is perfect for creating an overhanging surface at one end of the worktop. The Worktop Express fabrication team can create an ellipse end to any radius requirements, or match to a template if you would prefer.
Radius Corners: this customisation is the perfect addition for any kitchen worktop; it softens the edge and makes the surface more visually appealing. Radius corners can cut precisely to match curved kitchen island cabinet doors, or any other radii you may require. Combined with a soft profile edge, this addition will make any wooden worktop safe for family kitchens.
Sink & Hob Cut Outs: if you are planning on having a sink or oven hob on your kitchen island, we can pre-cut a hole to accommodate it. No matter what size your hob is, or whether you’re planning on an undermounted, overmounted or Belfast sink, our bespoke worktops team can cut the required aperture to your exact requirements.
We have a range of other fabrications available, from drainage and hotrod grooves, to end caps and tap holes. If you’re thinking of a more unusual alteration, don’t hesitate to get in touch with our fabrication department, who will be happy to cater for any feasible requests.
