How do I attach hardwood worktops to my kitchen units?

Question:

“I’ve just ordered some worktops from you and wanted to know how you recommend I attach them to the kitchen units, which are also solid oak?”

Answer:

If you are installing our wood worktops directly onto oak kitchen units, we recommend using slotted angle brackets, which are available as part of our Worktop Installation Kit, which is priced at just £18 and includes screws, mitre seal, worktop connector bolts and other accessories.

These angled brackets allow the worktop to move a small amount if the bracket is installed with the longer slot perpendicular to the width of the surface. We suggest using round-headed screws to attach the bracket to both the worktop and the cabinet.

If you are attaching worktops directly to cabinets that have solid tops, oversized 8-10mm holes should be drilled into the top of each cabinet and covered by a washer on both sides. This will allow the worktop to slide from side to side as it expands and contracts with changes in environmental temperature.

If you have any further queries, feel free to contact us again via telephone, email or live chat. You can also see our worktops in situ in any of the Worktop Express showrooms, giving you a better idea of how they should look once installed.
