It was back in 2016 that we last updated you on the locations of our showrooms. Since then, we have increased the number of worktop showrooms to eight, so now it is even easier to experience the quality of our worksurfaces first hand, before you buy.

Our three new showrooms all have kitchen sets so that you can better visualise how the worktops will look in your home. Visiting one of our showrooms offers fantastic inspiration, and what is more is that you can leave with some samples to see how they look in your own kitchen. Our Birmingham showroom has lots of quality solid wood worktops on display, including oak, Prime Oak, iroko, Deluxe Prime Oak, Deluxe European walnut, full stave iroko and full stave American walnut. You will also be able to view our range of laminate worktops including grey oak, Magma Zenith and white sparkle Andromeda worktops.

In September 2017, Glasgow became our first Scottish kitchen worktop showroom. Here you can view ash, Calcutta Marble, Cypress Cinnamon, Ipanema Grey and Glacier Earthstone worktops. The worktop Express Glasgow showroom is situated just off the M8 or a six-minute drive from Barnhill station.

If you have a solid wood worktop, it is important to maintain it properly. We recommend oiling worktops as this provides a layer of protection that will make the surfaces water resistant whilst maintaining a natural look – Danish oil is particularly good for this. Danish oil is a mixture of tung oil and other vegetable oils that can be used to treat wood and keep it looking great for longer. In fact, it is so effective at treating wooden worktops that we have introduced our own special blend -Worktop Express Danish oil for worktops. About Worktop Express Danish Worktop Oil

Danish oil by Worktop Express is available in three sizes – 1L, 2.5L and 5L. It can be used to maintain your worktop’s heat and water resistance whilst delivering a smooth and soft-sheen finish. Aside from this, oiling your worktop will prevent the wood from bowing or warping. Unlike lacquering, which adds a shine, oiling enhances the natural grain pattern of the timber.

How to Apply Danish Oil

The process of oiling a wooden worktop is the same, regardless of the type of timber. Simply follow these steps.

1. Using a clean cloth, remove any dirt and dust from the surface of the worktop.
2. Once clean, apply Worktop Express Danish oil to the top, edges end and end grain.
3. Wipe with a lint free cloth.
4. Leave to dry for six to eight hours before applying another coat if necessary.

We recommend applying 1L of oil per 3m of worktop.

Why Use Worktop Express Own Brand Oil?

Natural oils, like linseed or olive oil, accentuate the colour of the timber but remain wet for a long time. Danish oil, on the other hand, dries much quicker whilst still providing a beautiful finish. There are a number of brands available – including Rustin’s Danish oil – so why choose our blend? Our oil still provides the same excellent results as Rustin’s but is more cost effective.

Wood is a fantastic material to use for kitchen worktops, not only for its durability but also for its beautiful appearance. Repairing damaged knots in wooden worktops may be necessary, as these are a natural feature of the surfaces – thankfully, it is simple if you have the right equipment. In this information guide we give you some direction on restoring your worktop aesthetic.

What are Knots?

Knots are a natural occurrence in many hardwood timbers and are formed when branches or twigs grow from a tree’s trunk – the part which is used to make worktops. The quality of our worktops means that no more than three sound knots are found per square metre of surface, and each knot is no larger than 15mm. A sound knot is one that is solid across its face, making it as hard as the surrounding wood and unlikely to be damaged.

Repairing Damaged Knots in Worktops

Although sound knots are strong, accidents can occur which could damage them. In the unlikely event that this happens, fixing them is simple. Just follow these six steps:

1. Buy a wood filler that is moisture-resistant. There are various shades, so finding one that is suitable for your worktop should not be a problem.
2. If necessary, sand the area using fine 240 grit sandpaper.
3. Clean the damage and dust away using a small soft bristle brush or lint free cloth.
4. Add the filler to the damaged knot, being careful not to get any on the worksurface.
5. When dry, sand again to ensure a smooth finish.
6. Oil as necessary with Worktop Express Danish oil for worktops and wait for it to dry.
