“How do I keep kitchen countertops clean?” Question of the Week 29.08.15

“How do I keep kitchen countertops clean?”
Our final ‘Question of the Week’ this August was sent in my Geoff in Lincoln, who emailed in to ask us how we recommend cleaning kitchen countertops.
QUESTION:
“I bought oak worktops from you a couple of months ago, and want to know how you suggest cleaning them without damaging the surface”
ANSWER:
Hi Geoff,
Thank you for sending in your query regarding the oak worktops that you purchased from us.
It is very important to keep the worktops clean, particularly in the first few months after installation when you are regularly applying coats of protective oil.
To keep them in the best possible condition, we recommend giving your worktops a regular wipe down to remove any excess food debris and dust. We also suggest cleaning the worktops with a natural disinfectant to remove bacteria and light stains that may have built up on the surface; to remove dirt that has become more engrained in the surface, we suggest using the following natural solution:
- 2 small cups of water
- 1/4 a cup of white vinegar
- A tablespoon of washing up liquid
Once you have mixed up the solution, decant it into a spray bottle and cover the worktop adequately. Leave to settle for a few moments. Once the solution has had time to dissolve any dirt on the surface, use a clean damp cloth to wipe away.
After thoroughly wiping the surface, use a dry cloth to wipe away any excess moisture so that no watermarks can occur.
If you follow our recommended cleaning solution, we are confident that you will enjoy clean and stain-free worktops for a long time to come.
