Worktop Express Blog > Improvements to our Pre-Oiling Service for Real Wood Work Surfaces

Our fabrication service has gone from strength to strength over the last year, and we’ve worked hard to increase capacity and efficiency by investing in some top-notch machinery and refining our in-house processes.

After a period of extensive research and development, we have decided to introduce a new oil to our pre-oiling service: an industrial composition known as HABiol. This product offers increased efficiency in both drying and curing times, whilst providing an excellent level of protection; moreover, it is both compatible with our oiling machine and with our preferred oil for worktop maintenance, Rustins Danish Oil.

Rustins Maintenance Kit

This improvement will, we hope, allow us to continue to cut lead-times for fabrication and pre-oiling orders whilst producing the fantastic quality products our customers have come to expect. It will also mean that there will be only one type of oil (Rustins) recommended and sold by us for all worktop maintenance – whether you have ordered bespoke or DIY real wood work surfaces.

All fabrication customers (or those that have selected the pre-oiling option only) will receive worktops that are treated and ready for installation, but must apply one coat of oil immediately after installation (and three coats to newly-cut edges). As such, we have partnered with Rustins to produce a handy kit for post-installation maintenance. The Rustins Maintenance Kit contains everything required for the early stages of a worktop’s ‘life’ in your kitchen: 2 x de-nibbing pads, 3 x foam brushes, a pair of nitrile gloves, 2 x lint-free oiling cloths, 125ml of surface cleaner and 1 litre of Danish oil. A kit will be automatically added to all fabrication quotations as standard (this is for your convenience, but the item can be removed by request if necessary).

For more information on our oil types and their recommended applications, please view our pre-oiling information guide or visit our FAQ page.

  1. Hi

We recently purchased the American wide stave work tops as they were pre piled in woca oil. I am struggling to purchase this oil can I use any other insteAd. Thanks

  2. Hi Hilary,

Apologies for the delay in responding – as you can imagine, it has been a busy time of year for us.

We no longer use WOCA oil in our pre-oiling process, and have changed to HABOil (More details of which can be found here).

For oiling any worktops after installation however, we recommend using Rustins Danish Oil. This is available in quantities of 1L, 2.5L and 5L, and will give your worktop the finest possible finish. You can purchase the different quantities of Rustins Danish Oil from the Worktop Accessories section of our online store.

Before you re-oil your worktops, make sure you clean the surface sufficiently in order to remove any food debris, excess oil or anything else that may alter the finish of the oil. For further information, read our Oiling Worktops Nutshell Guide.

For any further queries, don’t hesitate to get in touch via telephone or email.

    All the best,

    Ben @ Worktop Express.

  3. Our wood counter tops are warping. We finished them with Waterlox Original Satin Finish. About 4 coats. Can we purchase your Danish Oil to treat them and then follow your instructions for warping worktops and expect them to return to their original position? They have been attached to plywood on the bottom. Or would we need to strip them and go from there? They are warping upward.
Thanks for any help you can provide.

  4. Hello Grace,

We have no experience working with Waterlox Original Satin Finish, but when customers wish to change the type of treatment used on a worktop we recommend sanding back to raw timber to begin the oiling process from fresh. You have mentioned that the worktops are attached to plywood, and without seeing the installation it is difficult for us to say if the warping can be treated through treatment alone. If you would like to send images of fixtures and fittings, along with the treatment used, to [email protected] we may be able to assist further.

    Kind regards,

    Stephanie @ Worktop Express.
