Last night hundreds of people from the Gloucestershire business community gathered for the most prestigious event in the calendar: the Gloucestershire Business Awards. Direct Online Services Ltd – the company behind Worktop Express® – had been shortlisted for two awards and so we were out in force.
The experience was both humbling and exciting, not least because of the great company we were in. Established by Gloucestershire Media, the awards are sponsored by several prominent Gloucestershire organisations such as Randall & Payne and the 2012 nominees included leading local enterprises from Avon Metal to Creed Foodservice. In such a turbulent economic climate it is more difficult than ever for businesses to flourish; thus it was truly uplifting to see such a fantastic turnout last night with so much support from the county’s professional community.
Now, to the awards themselves. As mentioned, it was wonderful even to be shortlisted – there was no presumption regarding actual award success. We were therefore blown away when DOS Director Will Rees was named Young Business Person of the Year.
As co-founder of DOS Ltd, Will’s fantastic propensity for inventive e-commerce and marketing strategies has been crucial in steering the company to success since its inception just four years ago. Where the business started with a few key personnel, the workforce now encompasses 100 people and is still growing; with plans for further expansion both internationally and throughout the UK now afoot, Will’s horizons are broadening but his innovation and flair remain unchanged.
We’re very proud of you Will: well done! Our warmest congratulations to all finalists and winners – and thank you to Gloucestershire Media and all the sponsors for a brilliant and memorable evening.
