Preston

Harris museum Preston solid wood worktops. Samlesbury Hall Preston solid wood worktops. Full stave black american walnut solid wood worktops are a popular choice in Preston.

The bustling industrial town of Preston can be easily reached via the M6 from the north or south. The Preston by-pass opened in 1958, creating the first stretch of motorway in the UK, which now forms parts of the M6 and M55. The River Ribble flows across the southern side of the town, entering the Irish Sea to the east, and is the contributory river to the newly developed Preston Marina.

Preston was granted market town status in the 12th century, and soon began to produce textiles on a large scale. Initially, citizens of the town started producing wool locally to weave at home, and were later joined by Flemish weavers who helped the industry to flourish. Centuries on, the textile trade began to plateau. Fortunately, the town's pioneering spirit endured and engineering faculties and industrial plants boomed, and Preston became the first town outside of London to be lit by gas lamps.
