Technology is moving at an incredible pace, and one of the most exciting new technologies that will find its way into more and more gadgets in the near future is wireless charging.
This technology allows smartphones, tablets, smartwatches and other devices to be charged without the need to plug in a fragile charging cable, and can be built into a range of furniture such as our wooden worktops.
WEX Wireless Worktop Chargers are available in two options. The first comes in pre-oiled solid wood pucks measuring 160mm x 40mm, which are perfect for offices, bedside tables or kitchens where the worktops have already been installed. Alternatively, the wireless charger can be ordered as a standalone unit to install into a recess on the underside of a worktop, or any other suitable furnishing. Both are compatible with the 'QI' wireless charging technology that is so far the most widely adopted format.
Choose from three different end grain timber varieties: solid oak, European walnut or a mixture of maple and walnut.
The following devices are known to be compatible with our worktop wireless chargers. If your device does not appear in the list below, please check with the manufacturer to see if it is compatible with the Qi wireless charging standard. Some smartphones such as Apple iPhones and older Samsung Galaxy models may be compatible with the addition of a wireless charging case or alternative battery.

If you would like to install our WEX Wireless Worktop Charger to an existing wooden worktop or other piece of wooden furnishing, we recommend using a router to cut an 80mm wide circular recess into the worktop 2.5mm less than the thickness of the worktop (37.5mm or 24.5mm depending on the thickness of the worktop you have chosen).
Because of the precision required, we recommend that you make a test recess into a scrap piece of the same type of timber if possible.
Once you have cut the hole, insert the wireless charger into the hole with the charging coils facing upwards. Tighten the two small screws near the edge of the charger in order to ensure that it stays firmly in the recess. Also make sure the charger is pushed fully into the recess so that there is no gap between the top of the charger and the worktop.
If you are ordering a worktop from us, we recommend you take advantage of our bespoke worktop service. We can pre-cut the recess with incredibly precise CNC machinery for just £20, and can also brand a mark onto the top surface of the worktop to give you an indication as to where your device should be positioned in order to charge.
