Worktop Cut to Size Service: A Worktop Express® Nutshell Guide

Our fantastic fabrication team can professionally cut your worktop to any length or width with our worktop cut-to-size service. The exact dimensions you require can be accommodated in mm measurements, making this service as accurate as possible. We also refinish the final cut edge of the timber to enhance smoothness.

Though we can apply any size cuts to your chosen worktop (width and depth), we are unable to cut any upstands you may have ordered.

Please note: if you are planning to cut your upstands to size, we would recommend commencing work only upon successful installation of the fabricated worktop; this would protect against any wastage of timber and reduce the risk of incorrect measurements.

Calculating your cut-to-size measurements

When calculating your required measurements, it would be easiest if the items the worktop will be installed above are already fixed in position. This will allow you to measure the worktop length accurately against the existing cabinetry. We recommend that your measurements allow for a 20-30mm overhang at the front and exposed edges of your worktop, along with a 3-4mm gap between your worktop and wall (to leave room for sufficient expansion and contraction). This is particularly important to consider if worktops are to be joined together.

Installation wall instructions

Measuring an overhang

The overhang on your worktop must be measured correctly. To achieve this, several factors should be considered: the size of the cabinet(s) below the worktop, the thickness of the doors on your cabinets, how large an expansion gap you are leaving and the service gap – if any – behind your cabinet. For example, a 600mm worktop should overhang a 560mm cabinet by approximately 40mm. A + or – 5mm tolerance is acceptable.

For more information on installation precautions – including maximum unsupported overhang measurements – please consult our installation and aftercare instructions.

Our service

Our fabrication team use an exceptional Homag saw to ensure evenness and precision. Our tools and blades are also serviced once a week to maintain our extremely high-quality standards.

A straight cut costs £15.00 with each additional cut costing only £10.00. The offcuts from your worktop will be sent with the rest of your order, free of charge.

Worktop Customisation Services

Please note: each cut administered by our fabrication team results in the loss of approximately 5mm of worktop length. This is due to the width of the blade cutting through the timber. A cut to a 3000mm worktop will result in a total worktop length of 2995mm (for example, if a 1000mm section is cut from the original 3000mm worktop, the two resultant sections will be 1000mm and 1995mm – a minute difference which will have no noticeable impact on your intended design scheme).
